The saying "it takes a village" is no less true than it ever has been, though unfortunately it seems more and more new families find themselves isolate even when amongst many. Historically, parents with a new babe were fully surrounded by sisters, mothers, grandparents and community members for many weeks at a time. However, with only a few exceptions, those days are all but gone and not out of lack of love, but out of the necessities our modern lives bring. These days postpartum support is often little more than a thoughtful meal, a sweet baby gift or short loving visit. There is no shortage of gratitude for such generous gifts, but the need is often far greater and deeper for new families.

This is where the Postpartum Doula comes in. The term Doula means "to be in service to" and within the role of the Postpartum Doula, this service is typically offered within the first three months following the birth of one's baby. The  basis of my work as a Postpartum Doula is to truly help support, nurture and help transition new parents into their changing roles.
